Lomax Exhibit
John Avery Lomax, raised in Meridian, was a folklorist and musicologist of note in the early 20th century. In his work with Harvard University, he documented the burgeoning music scene of the American South, focusing on folk music that ranges from prison work songs to cowboy trail songs.
Please help us build our new exhibit honoring the work and legacy of John A. Lomax.

The exhibit will be in our Pioneer Gallery. Much like many other Texans of the time, the Lomaxes came to Bosque County for the opportunities provided by the Chisholm Trail. A young John also made the journey from Goodman, Mississippi.
Upon entering the exhibit, visitors will be transported to a front porch in the American South in the 1930s. In addition to a guitar and a recording phonograph, several audio-visual elements will tell the legacy of this music pioneer from Meridian.
